Fast fashion creates a massive global crisis by generating around 92 million tonnes of textile waste every year, with the equivalent of one garbage truck of clothing dumped in a landfill or burned every second.
The trend of buying clothes for one-time wear, often to match specific event themes, encourages overconsumption and drives the overproduction cycle of fast fashion, amplifying its environmental impact.
I needed a solution that encourages people to use the clothes that they have and not keep buying for every occasion.
I also needed it to educate people about sustainable practices and about the ill effects of overconsumption.
And, I needed a fun way to encourage creativity and sustainability through a game!
A board game named ‘Loop the Look’
aims to make sustainability fun by encouraging players ages 15 and beyond to re-wear clothes that they own, and making them aware about the ill effects of fast fashion on the environment.
The cards have pieces of clothing suitable for different occasions, and overlapping ones too.
It is the player’s creativity to use the clothing they already have on the cards to build outfits suitable for the event that they have landed on.
The board features events for which players build outfits using their cards, along with QR-code teaching moments triggered when players land on them, like clothing repair tutorials, or clothing donation websites.
